How We Respond to the Forecast

Every contract has dedicated equipment and crew capacity. The forecast tells us when to put it to work.

No snow or freeze risk expected. Units stay staged and monitoring continues around the clock.

Trace snow or freezing temperatures with moisture. We apply Easy Ice Melt so ice can't bond to walkways and lots.

Accumulating snow is in the forecast. Crews roll out before it falls, and every visit gets geo-fenced, timestamped proof of service.

Why Seattle Snow Is Hard to Predict

Seattle snow is rare but disruptive, and it almost never falls evenly. Three patterns decide who gets hit.

Winds split around the Olympic Mountains and rejoin over Puget Sound, creating a narrow band of heavy snow. It often lands on Everett, Edmonds and north Seattle.

Queen Anne, Capitol Hill and West Seattle turn dangerous with even a thin glaze. Sloped entrances, ramps and parking lots need treatment before the freeze, not after.

Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland sit higher and farther from the water than downtown. They often hold snow and ice longer after a storm clears.

Seattle Snow Forecast FAQs

  • How much snow does Seattle usually get?

Seattle averages only a few inches of snow a year, often from one or two events. Because the city rarely sees it, even a small amount can shut down roads and parking lots.

  • When do you dispatch snow removal crews in the Seattle area?

Crews go out when the forecast shows accumulating snow, before it starts falling. First Responder Units are staged on-site with equipment and ice melt, so work starts with the storm.

  • Why is ice such a problem on Seattle's hills?

Steep streets and sloped lots turn a thin layer of ice into a serious slip hazard. We pre-treat ramps, stairs and walkways with Easy Ice Melt so ice cannot bond before temperatures drop.

  • Why does north Seattle get more snow than Tacoma?

The Puget Sound Convergence Zone forms where winds meet after flowing around the Olympic Mountains. It usually sets up between north Seattle and Everett, so a few miles can mean inches of difference.
